Medicare Advantage

Medicare Advantage Plans (also called Part C) are an “all in one” alternative to Original Medicare.  They are offered by Private Insurance Companies and APPROVED by Medicare.  If you join a Medicare Advantage Plan, you still have Medicare.  These “bundled” plans include Medicare Part A, Part B, and usually Part D.

Medicare Supplements

Supplements (also know as Medigap) plans help pay some of the health care costs that Original Medicare does not cover like: Copays, Coinsurance, and Deductibles.

Part D – Prescription Drug Plans

Part D Prescription Drug Plan(s) helps pay for prescription drugs, but it is not added automatically when you enroll in Medicare. Part D Prescription Drug Plan(s) are a voluntary program and is purchased through a private insurance company.  However, if you delay purchasing one, there will be a penalty assessed if you choose to enroll in a Part D Prescription Drug Plan later, unless there is an exception.

Final Expense

Final expense insurance is designed to cover the bills that your loved ones will face after your death. These costs will include medical bills and funeral expenses. Final expense insurance is also known as burial insurance. Unfortunately, even bare-bones funerals can cost thousands of dollars.

Dental, Vision, Hearing

Dental work, such as tooth extractions (whether related to a hospital stay or not), will not be covered. Nor will your eye doctor appointments, eyeglasses/contact lenses, or hearing aids. An ancillary dental, vision, or hearing plan will help you cover some of those costs.

FAQs

Your most important questions, answered!

Does it cost anything to use your service?

NO.  It doesn’t cost anything to have us help you select the right plan.  The provider you select to provide your benefits will pay us for assisting you but you don’t pay a single penny of increased premium.  You also get the added benefit of having a personal advisor to call when you need help.

How do I decide between a Medicare supplement plan and a Medicare Advantage plan?

In simplest terms a Medicare supplement is a pay now plan model and a Medicare Advantage plan is a pay later plan model.  This is a question that really requires an appointment to evaluate your unique situation.

How does the affordable care act aka. Obama care effect my Medicare coverage?

The affordable care act is for those who are under 65 and not eligible for Medicare.  Medicare is a separate program from the ACA and has its own rules and regulations.

If I continue to work, do I need to sign up for Medicare?

If you are on a group plan generally you won’t need to do anything until you retire.  However you will want to check with your HR person for any specific requirement your specific group plan may have.  If you are not on an employers group plan you will need to sign up for Medicare when you are first eligible.  There are some exceptions to this rule and should be evaluated on an individual basis

Can I have a Medicare Advantage plan and a Medicare Supplement Plan?

No.  You are only allowed to have one or the other.  If you select a supplemental plan you will want to add on a prescription drug plan as well.

Can I have a Medicare Advantage plan and a Prescription drug plan?

If your Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C) includes prescription drug coverage and you join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (Part D), you’ll be dis-enrolled from your Medicare Advantage Plan and returned to Original Medicare.
